The poem
My love is like to ice, and I to fire: how comes it then that this her cold so great is not dissolv'd through my so hot desire, but harder grows, the more I her entreat?
Or how comes it that my exceeding heat is not delayed by her heart frozen cold, but that I burn much more in boiling sweat, and feel my flames augmented manifold?
What more miraculous thing may be told that fire, which all thing melts, should harden ice: and ice which is congealed with senseless cold, should kindle fire by wonderful device?
Such is the pow'r of love in gentle mind that it can alter all the course of kind.

In a sonnet you are not suposed to have four words rymeing in two different stanzas! like: cold, manifold, told, and cold again. Not to be mean or any thing, but i am only in 8th grade and i can tell that your poem is not a correct sonnet. But other than that i thought it was good!
Roxan, perhaps the fact that you ARE only in the eigth grade prevents you from kowing that Edmund Spenser invented his own sonnet form called "Spenserian Sonnet" which he wrote all of his sonnets in. Even now many authors who write sonnets chose to write in "Spenserian". So contrary to what you MAY think you know, this, what you call poem, is a correct form of a sonnet. Not to be mean or anything but before you…

Not to be mean or anything but before you critize a famous author's work that has been published more times than seconds you've been alive, you should check your sources. In his day, Sir Edmund Spenser was considered one of the greatest poets and sonnet writers of his time and i dont think a measely 8th grader has the right nor the knowledge to deprive him of that title.
Dont worry, it was a nice effort, Roxanne. Some people just can't bear to have anybody else know anything about their favorite topic. She probably just didn't get to play with the other kids when she was little, Ashley that is...
haha nice one nathan... yeh i agree with u about ash... she was way mean :( but anyway... im doing this poem in muh 12th grade english class for a poetic analysis paper... very good poem... spencer is a very interesting man... his understanding and expression of the emotion in this poem of loving someone and not being loved back is very... intense... the sadness he expresses as he vividly discribes pictures of his fire (love) for her and how it is not extinguished nor defeated by her Icey heart... but is made to burn even brighter...
whoa thats deep! :-P anyway... Rox u need a PHD
