The poem
I have lived in important places, times When great events were decided, who owned That half a rood of rock, a no-man's land Surrounded by our pitchfork-armed claims. I heard the Duffys shouting "Damn your soul" And old McCabe stripped to the waist, seen Step the plot defying blue cast-steel— "Here is the march along these iron stones" That was the year of the Munich bother. Which Was more important? I inclined To lose my faith in Ballyrush and Gortin Til Homer's ghost came whispering to my mind He said: I made the Iliad from such A local row. Gods make their own importance.

Probably my favorite Irish poem..Each individual's life is as important as any other. That's what i get from it.
Epic
I like this poem as i feel it shows how the human mind and customs still remain intact over the thousands of years.Fighting is always going to be a part of life as the greeks fought and it continues in smaller scales through Kavanaghs neighbours.
Woop
We think the Irish are lovely fellows but they need to sort out there poetry because this poem in stink =] just to let you know. Byyyyyyeeeee x x x
ex-squeeze me?
Yeah whenever we hear of an overly famous algerian poet then you can comment on whether irish poetry stinks or not. You obviously don't appreciate classical irish works which are loves all over the world. I love Kavanagh's work and enjoyed studying it in college, especially this poem which, to me, gives a fine example of how men still turn to violence and fight to solve their problems.
