I love this poem, Our choir teacher got a hold of the song version of this poem and we sang it at our last consert and since your choir is going to New York , we'r going to sing it there to.
This poem was written by Rabbie Burns, who for many a year I detested as I live in Dumfries which is like a shrine for the man. I met a girl who loved me sending her poems and I sent her this one, well she loved it and then me. So now a favourite of mine!

This poem/ song was written by a man for his lover. In the last stanza we see that he is going away somewhere 'and fare thee weel'. The narrator keeps the poem simple as he does want to complicate the expression of his feelings, his only desire is to proclaim his love for his partner. Like a rose, soft, delicate, beautiful and innocent, in its simplicity, it sums up this mans feelings for someone he adores.

Well i woudlnt agree totally, looking at Roberts history he had way to many mistresses and children out of wed lock to be just commenting upon his love for one woman - i agree with the fact that he could be writing about the implications of love and the feeling of falling in love rather than an actual love he has. He died 2 years after he wrote this poem and mayb he just wrote it for the simple purpose of writing as…

I am not denying it is a lovely poem and anyone that enjoys this poem will love 'One Perfect Rose' by Dorothy Parker, although my personal favourite love poem is Sonnet XVIII by shakespeare - how he immortalises this woman by his sheer love for her is amazing, check it out seriously!
This has become my favorite poem. I had to read it in college course and I immediately fell in love with it. I am pretty sure that if a guy said quoted this to me I would go all silly and stuff....
