ONE Queen Artemisia, as old stories tell, When deprived of her husband she loved so well, In respect for the love and affection he show’d her, She reduc’d him to dust and she drank up the powder. But Queen Netherplace, of a diff’rent complexion, When called on to order the fun’ral direction, Would have eat her dead lord, on a slender pretence, Not to show her respect, but—to save the expense!

T – A repetition of a previous poem.
P – One Queen Artemisa, as old stories tell,
When deprived of her husband she loved so well,
In respect for the love and affection he had showed her,
She reduced him to dust and she drank up the powder.
But Queen Netherplace, of a different complexion,
When called on to order the funeral direction,
Would have eaten her dead lord, on a slender pretense,
Not to show her respect, but to save the expense
C – Imagery: “Would have eaten her dead lord”
A – He seems sort of weary about Queen Netherplace, as though he’s the “dead lord” and his lady is the queen, like she’s angry with him.
S – Line 5; He starts out with Queen Artemisa and sounds kind of grateful but then seems kind of afraid of Queen Netherplace.
T – One "queen" has compassion for her love while the other has compassion only for money.
T – Money isn’t always everything, especially when a loved one comes into play.
