Portrait of Robert Burns
Robert Burns 1759–1796
302Poems and Songs. The Harvard Classics. 1909–14.

PEG NICHOLSON was a good bay mare, As ever trod on airn; But now she’s floating down the Nith, And past the mouth o’ Cairn.

Peg Nicholson was a good bay mare, An’ rode thro’ thick and thin; But now she’s floating down the Nith, And wanting even the skin.

Peg Nicholson was a good bay mare, And ance she bore a priest; But now she’s floating down the Nith, For Solway fish a feast.

Peg Nicholson was a good bay mare, An’ the priest he rode her sair; And much oppress’d and bruis’d she was, As priest-rid cattle are,—&c. &c.

I didnt really like it at all. whoever wrote it needs to do some studing on english. im canadian, and can be understood in english better that that. i am graduating from the canadian poetic arts university, and i can tell you, that was sloppily written, unwhole, and as we poets call it, poetic no-no. Iks aeim dor mei, luc ian swqy oh, erakiij. that means, poetry is a river of words, that shouldnt be taken lightly, if you stop it from flowing too long, the hold will break loose into a waterfall of meaningless words.
