My Father

Portrait of Yehuda Amichai
Yehuda Amichai 1924–2000

I read this is Oprah Winphrey's "O" magis\zine and was so moved! I want to give to my father for his birthday. I am curious about one word, however: "tower".....does a magician pull a tower from his hat? Could this me a translation error? Maybe it is suppsed to be "tricks"?

Just wondering. It is still gorgeous.

    responding to simrah tariq's e-mail,
its not going to rhyme because it has been translated from hebrew, to get the full thrill of the poem one must read it in hebrew and not critique a translation that doesnt rhyme...since when does poetry have to rhyme? the whole point of poetry is to limit restrictions on the writing not placing a restriction that things must rhyme.
