The poem
I am the only being whose doom No tongue would ask no eye would mourn I never caused a thought of gloom A smile of joy since I was born
In secret pleasure - secret tears This changeful life has slipped away As friendless after eighteen years As lone as on my natal day
There have been times I cannot hide There have been times when this was drear When my sad soul forgot its pride And longed for one to love me here
But those were in the early glow Of feelings since subdued by care And they have died so long ago I hardly now believe they were
First melted off the hope of youth Then Fancy's rainbow fast withdrew And then experience told me truth In mortal bosoms never grew
'Twas grief enough to think mankind All hollow servile insincere - But worse to trust to my own mind And find the same corruption there
this is a real good poem bye Emily.This poem though starts with unpleasont note but is ends on a big reality of this fierce world.According to her man has placed a barrier between oneanother due to his ignorance.This barrier can only be overcome if one is sincere and devoted to thier fellow biengs.the most remarkable thing is the self analysis of the poetess.it is easy to criticize others but one rarely looks upon ones own heart.
emily's poem 'doom' is a deep, meaningful, reflective piece. this poem captured my heart as it explained of the harsh reality of love in life. She feels alone as the one that she loves has a barrier to avoid her love affecting them emotionally as loving is giving someone the power to hurt you. But with this barrier the hurt is not being prevented but made worse. So by them holding back she felt neglected and alone. The poetry describes how easy it to criticize others rarely looking upon ones own heart.
This poem is really really interesting n very realistic poem. This poem made my eyes filled with tears n heart with sorrow .Love which everyone search n wish for but unfortunately it wasn't in the fortune of EMILY.i like the way EMILY BRONTE expressed her feelings without any kind of pain as she feels that that is how life is going on. well i will say that EMILY was a great poetess as in the world the hard think is to believe that v ourself r corrupted but emily said tht in a very simple way...
Emily Bronte expresses her emotions in a realistic and extremely powerful manner. The poem is subjective but each one of us can relate to the harsh reality she depicts in this poem.It touches people because it so painfully realistic. The last stanza is the most touching.Keeping in view Emily Bronte's life and the fact that she died quite young i find her analysis of life extremely mature. The poem is my all time favourite..
Her poetry is more like urdu poet 'Meer Dard'.She xpresses her feelings very vividly.She xpressed he agony very clearly.The poem is a source of relieve for all in pain.She used 'ababab' scheme.Anyways the poem is a big one.
after analysing the poem deeply i feel that emily is potraying her own life in her poetry and i feel as if she was discriminated by her family though it is not mentioned anywhere in her poetry. also in addtion to thi she was a very deep poetess nevertheless she mostly wrote depressing poetry! thus i conclude that she has described her own feelings in a very good manner.!!
