"Parnell" is my very favorite peom by Yeats and I like many of his poems. It is simple and direct and yet carries the weight of the condition of mankind and his everchanging bid to control his world. As well as indicating the reality that man is transitory and it is only the land and the earth that is permainate.
This poem, as much as I could remember, has been on my mind in response to the excitement at Obama's election. Finding it here confirmed its relevance--a more social or political response than the comment by Rebecca.
